(IsraelNN.com) Following the decision of the High Court of Justice in response to the request of Arab farmers, IDF forces were assigned today to enable Arabs to enter the community of Itamar, in Samaria, in order to harvest olives. The grove, which the Arabs claim is theirs, was included in the municipal area of the Jewish town.
The residents of Itamar claimed that the Arab olive harvesters may include terrorists, or those working with them gathering intelligence about the community. Several people from Itamar were murdered by Arab terrorists who infiltrated the town in recent years.
Residents of Itamar are currently confronting the large contingent of police and IDF soldiers cordoning off the olive grove. Several protesters have been arrested. The incident continues at this hour.
To avoid such confrontations and to prevent the possibility of Arab terrorist infiltration, Itamar leaders offered a compromise solution whereby the community would pay for the harvest rather than allow Arab farmers into the town. The Arabs rejected the offer and insisted on carrying out the harvest themselves, with IDF protection.
