Security concerns among military officials have prompted the decision to order soldiers back into northern Samaria, a year after the implementation of the Disengagement Plan in the area.
Unlike the situation in Gaza, the disengagement, the expulsion of Jews from a number of communities, did not leave the area under total PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous control.
Warnings by Yesha leaders that went unheeded prior to the expulsion are now compelling military commanders to plan for a renewed military presence in the area to provide security for Jews living and traveling the area roads.
Yesha Council Executive-Director Bentzi Lieberman stated the situation is “heart-breaking,” adding that it is now evident to all that expelling Jews from areas of Israel does not provide security, but quite the contrary, adding “I hope the lessons of the expulsion have been learned.”
