Arabs from the village of Atzira el-Kabliya on Saturday morning set a wheat field belonging to Yitzhar ablaze. The field is west of the Shomron Jewish community.
The owner of the wheat field, Yitzhar resident Akiva Cohen responded when he saw the blaze. He fired his weapon in the air in the hope of chasing the arsonists away.
IDF troops responded and conducted a search for the arsonists in the village after imposing a curfew.
Police brought Cohen into the Ariel station for questioning and confiscated his weapon. The town leaders decried the police response and the confiscation of the legal weapon which they added was used appropriately in an effort to protect the field.
